Advergaming

Branded play: the game is the ad, or the product is built into play—not a banner stuck on the edge of someone else’s title. The job is to be remembered through play, not a single click.

Detailed explanation

An advergame is a branded game, a playable unit, or a product woven into the experience. It fits launches, events, and awareness windows where ‘play, then remember’ is the brief. In-game ads (standard units inside a third-party game) are a different buy.

The failures are turning the game into a hidden catalog, or killing mobile play with a long load. Forced watching also flips goodwill. Leaderboards that vacuum personal data without a clear ask burn trust.

Measure starts, completions, time in play, and brand-lift research when you run it. CTR is a weak primary. Forcing the same CPA as a performance campaign misses the job.

Frequently asked questions

Is an in-game ad the same as advergaming?
No. An in-game ad is a standard unit inside a game. Advergaming is when the game itself is the branded experience.
Should success be judged on clicks?
Rarely as the main KPI. Depth of play, completion, and memorability do the job; a click is an optional exit.

Internal links for the topic cluster — read these concepts together.

  • BrandingThe work of making a brand distinctive and easy to recall—not just drawing a logo. Name, proof, and repetition pile up so people can attach a job to you.
  • Brand AwarenessWhether the target audience recognizes the brand and recalls it in the right category. It is memory work at the top of the funnel, not a last-click KPI.
  • ContentThe articles, videos, guides, and assets a brand publishes in search, email, social, or on-site. The job is to answer a question and earn the next step—not to fill a calendar.
  • Display AdvertisingBanners, native units, and other visual formats on sites and apps. Unlike search text ads, they show up before someone has typed a query into the box.
  • ConversionThe defined action you wanted completed: a purchase, signup, download, or form. Traffic without that count means the campaign flew blind on its results.
