Heatmap

A visual of click, scroll, or movement density on a page. It shows what people notice and what they ignore.

Detailed explanation

Click maps, scroll maps, and sometimes move maps are different layers. “Put every button on the red spot” is a trap; rage clicks on empty space are also a signal.

Small samples look like insight and are noise. Split mobile and desktop: a desktop CTA can sit below the fold on phones.

Heatmaps generate hypotheses. Winners are confirmed with an A/B test or a clear metric move.

Frequently asked questions

Is a heatmap enough to decide?
No. It shows what to try. A test or a clean metric change confirms the winner.
What does a scroll map tell you?
How far content is seen. If the key message sits below the fold, layout changes first.

  • A/B TestAn A/B Test is an experiment method that shows two (or more) variants at the same time and compares which performs better using statistical evidence.
  • Landing PageThe first page a visitor hits after an ad, email, or search click—built for one job. Unlike a homepage, it trades navigation clutter for a promise, proof, and a single call to action.
  • CTAThe button, link, or line that names the next step you want someone to take. Vague labels like “learn more” may collect clicks and still fail the conversion.
  • Bounce RateBounce Rate is the percentage of visitors who view only a single page and leave without further interaction.
  • Multivariate TestAn experiment that changes several elements at once (headline, image, CTA) and measures combinations. It needs more traffic than a simple A/B test.
