Brand Lift

The measured gap in recall, preference, or purchase intent between people who saw an ad and a control group that did not. It is a survey-based lift study, not a click or last-click sale.

Detailed explanation

An exposed group and a holdout answer the same questions. The score gap shows what the campaign left in memory: ad recall, awareness, preference, purchase intent. YouTube and Meta Brand Lift products package this method.

Clicks and ROAS do not measure that job. Killing upper-funnel video on last-click alone cuts spend where lift never appears. The study needs enough impressions and a clean control; small budgets stay noisy.

The usual mistakes are treating lift as conversion proof, or mismatching the survey window to the flight. High frequency can raise recall while preference falls. Read recall, intent, and cash together before you call the budget.

Frequently asked questions

Is brand lift the same as brand awareness?
No. Awareness is whether the audience recognizes the brand. Lift measures how much a campaign changed that recognition or intent versus a control group.
Does it replace ROAS?
No. It is not sales proof; it is a survey read of upper-funnel effect. Pair it with cash, MER, and incrementality tests for budget calls.

  • Brand AwarenessWhether the target audience recognizes the brand and recalls it in the right category. It is memory work at the top of the funnel, not a last-click KPI.
  • ReachReach is a core visibility metric that counts the number of unique users who saw a piece of content or an ad at least once within a given period.
  • View-Through ConversionA conversion credited after an ad impression with no click, inside a set window. Display and video campaigns lean on this claim more than search does.
  • Share of VoiceA brand’s share of category visibility in ads or conversation. It is not the same as share of spend; it is share of being seen.
  • BrandingThe work of making a brand distinctive and easy to recall—not just drawing a logo. Name, proof, and repetition pile up so people can attach a job to you.
